WattShift (“we,” “our,” or “us”) provides the WattShift app free of charge to users (“the App” or “Service”. This Privacy Policy outlines our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information when you use our Service. By using the WattShift app, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you choose to use the WattShift service, then you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this policy.
1. Information Collection and Use
We may collect personally identifiable information including, but not limited to, your name, email address, and utility provider. This data helps us to provide and improve our Service and ensure compatibility/optimization with your utility provider.
We will ask you for setup information to help us create your initial program of temperature settings to keep you comfortable, such as asking about your home type and zip code. This allows us to optimize the Service to your circumstances and secure the greatest energy savings within your comfort bands.
As you use the App we will collect your heating and cooling usage information and direct adjustment records to improve the Service.
Information from your smart thermostat and other connected devices, including temperature settings, HVAC usage, and environmental data such as temperature and humidity. This data is used to optimize your energy usage and provide tailored recommendations.
We automatically collect data when you use our website and the App, including your IP address, standard device information (e.g. device type and OS), and usage statistics. This helps us understand how you use WattShift and improve our Service. WattShift does as a first party use cookies, however the App may use third party code and libraries that collect information and improve their services. You have the option to either accept or refuse these cookies and know when a cookie is being sent to your device. If you choose to refuse our cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of the Service.
The App uses third-party services like Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics, which may collect data used to identify you and analyze your usage patterns to improve our Service.
We may use your usage history in connection with your feedback to improve our Service.
2. Purpose of Data Collection
We may use your data to operate and maintain our Service, including improving performance and functionality, to provide support and respond to inquiries/feedback regarding our Service, to use aggregated and anonymized data for internal research to improve our product and feature offerings, to communicate with you about updates and important information regarding the App, and to comply with any applicable laws, regulations, and to protect our rights and interests.
3. Data Sharing and Ownership
We may share your data in a few limited circumstances, detailed below, however we will never sell your personal information to third parties:
Third-party service providers who assist in providing and maintaining the Service - these parties are obligated to use your data solely for performing tasks on our behalf, and not obligated to disclose to users their involvement, and your information shall not be sold by these entities without your permission
Disclosure of information if required to do so by law
In The event of a merger, acquisition, or sales of assets - in which case your data may be transferred to a new entity; we will notify you of such transactions and provide you with options regarding your data
You should also be aware that information you provide to any of your connected devices may be shared to integrated applications, devices, and services (such as Apple HomeKit), regardless of WattShift interaction and differing privacy policies may apply.
4. Data Access, Retention, and Security
You have the right to access and update your personal information, which can be done through the App or by contacting us.
We will retain your data for as long as necessary to provide you with our Service, comply with legal requirements, and to enforce any binding agreements.
You have the right to request your personal data be deleted - please contact us to initiate a deletion request.
We will implement commercially reasonable measures to protect your data, with the understanding that no transmission of electronic data is ever guaranteed to be completely secure.
5. Third-Party Links
Our website and App may have links to other websites, we are not responsible for the privacy or content of these sites and encourage users to review third-party privacy policies before engaging with these sites.
6. California Consumer Privacy Act
If you are a California resident, you have specific rights regarding your personal information under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). These rights include understanding what data we will collect and use, the right to delete your data, the right to opt-out of the sale of your personal information (which we don’t do anywho!), and the right to non-discrimination. 7. Children’s Privacy
We do not intentionally serve or collect personal information from children under the age of 16. If you believe we have obtained personal information associated with children under the age of 16 please contact us at contactus@wattshift.com and we will delete it.
8. Updates to this Policy & Contact
We may update this policy from time to time, changes will be posted on this page and significant changes will be communicated via the App or other digital communications.
